Sorrells Renovation

Closure of Sorrells Library for Renovations:

May through-August 2013

Immediately after exams this spring, the Sorrells Engineering & Science Library in Wean Hall will close temporarily for major renovation. Planned with student and faculty input, the project will increase informal group study space, create quiet study areas, and improve lighting and ambience throughout the library. Closing for renovation May 15 through August 10 will insure that the new and improved Sorrells Library will open on schedule this fall.

Here is how the University Libraries will support the Sorrells Library community during the closure:

The E&S materials you prefer and use most are online at search.library.cmu.edu

  • Ejournals and ebooks
  • Most new Sorrells items are digital

Incoming print items will be housed temporarily at Hunt Library

  • New Sorrells print journal issues – Hunt 3rd floor
  • New Sorrells print books – Hunt 1st floor

Effective immediately – extended loan period for Sorrells print books

  • No Sorrells books will be due until September 6
  • If you want to return Sorrells books over the summer, return them to Hunt Library

If the Sorrells item you need is not online, use search.library.cmu.edu/services/interlibrary

  • EZ-Borrow for books
  • ILLiad for journal articles or books

FACULTY – For best results, request Sorrells print reserves before April 22

Sorrells Library faculty and staff will be available all summer to assist library users

  • Our email addresses and phone numbers will remain the same
  • Details about our temporary office locations will be distributed shortly

If you have any questions about the renovation or closure, please email Matt Marsteller or call him at 412-268-7212.
