Financial Support for Open Access Publishing

Funding to Help Pay Article Processing Charges (APCs)

The University Libraries provides funding to help CMU corresponding authors pay reasonable fees associated with open access publishing. See Funding for Article Processing Charges (APCs) for eligibility criteria. To apply for funding:

  1. Complete the Request for Funding to Pay Article Processing Charges [pdf].
  2. Save the file.
  3. Send the file and the publisher’s invoice for the APC to:

Discounts on Article Processing Charges (APCs)

The University Libraries’ memberships and site licenses provide discounts on Article Processing Charges (APCs) to encourage open access publishing. Discounts are not necessarily applied automatically. Corresponding CMU authors should inform the publisher or note the reduced fee on the invoice.

Unrelated to the Libraries’ site license, for 2014 only, the American Mathematical Society (AMS) is providing a 50% discount on APCs to publish in Proceedings of the AMS, Series B and Transactions of the AMS, Series B. See AMS Open Access Journals for details.

CMU Author Memberships in PeerJ

The University Libraries pays for CMU authors’ lifetime memberships in PeerJ. See Memberships in PeerJ for details.

Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Vouchers to Publish Open Access

The University Libraries participates in the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Gold for Gold program. Gold for Gold provides a limited number of vouchers per year that CMU authors can use to pay for open access to their articles published in RSC journals. The vouchers are distributed on a first come, first served basis. See Royal Society of Chemistry Gold for Gold for details and instructions.
