What are your hours?

Can anybody use Hunt Library 24/5?

No. You must show your CMU ID to be in the library between 3am and 8am.

I tried to log in and my Andrew ID didn’t work.  What is my library ID & PIN?

How do I access databases from off-campus?

Users can log in with their username and password to access library databases, e-journals, image collections & all other electronic resources.  See Off-Campus/Wireless Access.

How do I log in to a library workstation?

Students, faculty, and staff log in with your Andrew ID/password. Visitors may obtain a temporary ID/password. See Guest/Visitor/Alumni Computer Access.

How do I print?

Print jobs are sent to release stations throughout the libraries and then retrieved from the stations by swiping your CMU ID. See Computing Clusters & Printing. Visitors must purchase a Plaid Ca$h card.

How do I pay for copying?

Some library copiers accept money. Other copiers accept Plaid Ca$h cards. See ID Card Services for more information.

What kind of internet access does the library have?

Wireless access is available to authenticated CMU users only. See Connecting to the Network. Non-affiliated users cannot log on to our wireless network.

Can alumni borrow books from the libraries?

Yes. See Special Patron Application [pdf].

Do alumni have remote access to the libraries’ databases and e-journals?

No, currently there is no remote access for alumni, though you can come to the library and obtain a temporary ID/password. See Guest/Visitor/Alumni Computer Access.

How to Find Material

What if the item is checked out?

Click on the title and then select PLACE HOLD, located at the end of the item record. Log in to your library account at the prompt. When the book is ready for pick up you will be notified via email. See circulation staff for other options.

What if the item isn’t on the shelf?

If a book is shown as available, but you can’t find it on the shelf, print the item information and ask for help at any reference or circulation desk.

How do I get an item from offsite storage?

Click on the title and then select PLACE HOLD, located at the end of the item record. Log in to your library account at the prompt. When the book is ready for pick up you will be notified via email. See circulation staff for other options.

How do I find an item that my professor has put on reserve?

How do I find a journal?

The University Libraries have physical and electronic journals.  While many journals are available both in physical and electronic format, some are available in only one format or the other.  If cannot locate your journal, see the reference desk.

Search CAMEO to find physical journals.

Search e-Journals to find electronic journals.

How do I find a DVD that I can check out?

Recreational DVDs are the only DVDs that can be checked out.  They are only available at Hunt Library.  Search for your DVD in CAMEO, then refine your search using the material type RECDVD.  Bring the title of the DVD to the Hunt Library circulation desk to check out.

The library doesn’t own it – what do I do?

If an item is not available at the library, please check local library catalogs. Additionally, items can be requested through InterLibrary Loan.

E-Z Borrow Users can request BOOKS ONLY from participating libraries.

ILLiad Users can request books, microforms, theses, some dissertations, and copies of articles from journals, newspapers and other publications.

What does a call number with XX in it mean?

Call numbers with XX are not yet ready to be checked out. Print the item information and ask for help at a circulation desk.

Can I recommend items to be purchased for the Libraries?

Fill out the Recommend to Order form.
